Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide reading instructional materials/programs for students in grades 6–8 for students reading below grade level at 40 middle school campuses Monitoring student progress is ongoing and is used to determine where the current instructional and recommended needs to the students Lessons that address the foundational reading skills using a structured approach designed to improve decoding and fluent reading Program must be aligned to Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards Tools that build strong literacy foundations and help remediate the decoding issues of middle, and high school students Implementation guidelines are noted for the lesson and/or components of the lesson to assist with appropriate instructional pacing, grouping, and differentiation with preference for a 45 minute lesson sequence Progresses systematically from simple word types (e.g., consonant-vowelconsonant) and word lengths (e.g., number of phonemes) and word complexity (e.g., phonemes in the word, position of blends, stop sounds) to more complex words.
