Specifications include, but are not limited to: The purpose of the LIMS is to manage all materials testing-related information needed by MaineDOT for the design, construction, preservation and maintenance of Maine’s transportation network. In a typical year, MaineDOT has approximately 300 projects underway that require testing services. These projects generate an average of 9,500 material tests each year. MTEx facilities include a central lab in Bangor, which is divided into five lab sections (based on material type), and a regional lab in Freeport that provides construction materials testing for southern Maine. In addition, MTEx conducts onsite testing of construction materials, inspections of material production facilities, geotechnical drilling, and nondestructive pavement testing (including pavement deflection testing, pavement smoothness, and ground penetrating radar). Although most construction occurs annually between April 1 and November 30, some construction projects continue throughout winter months, and geotechnical sampling and testing occur year-round. All equipment will need to rely on technology other than cellular service due to the fact that Maine is a rural state, with limited or no cell phone service in some regions.
