Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. General Requirements: Quicklime shall be substantially free from core, ash, dirt or other foreign material and shall be capable of readily disintegrating in water into a suspension of finely divided material. 2. Physical Composition: Prior to shipment, all lime shall be screened through a one-eights (1/8”) screen. Shipment shall be such that when delivered, the lime shall be free from an excessive amount of oversized particles, or an excessive amount of dust. Improper care in screening will be reason for rejection; the Contractor will be required to remove the shipment at their own expense, including cost of unloading and reloading. 3. Chemical Composition: The percentage of water soluble Calcium Oxide shall not be less than ninety percent (90%). The percentage shall be calculated based on weight of sample taken at the point of delivery. 4. Methods of Sampling: Composite samples will be collected from trucks upon arrival at point of delivery and in accordance with Standard Methods of Sampling, Inspection, Packaging and Marking of Quicklime and Lime Products (ASTM Designation 050-27) of the American Society for Testing Materials. 5. Methods of Testing: The chemical analysis for water soluble Calcium Oxide will be made in accordance with the methods as recommended by the ANSI/AWWA B202-93 Standard. Average of the sugar and Ellms Tests shall be taken as correct. The Water Department laboratory will analyze each load lot to determine the percentage of water soluble Calcium Oxide. The analysis will be final and conclusive.
