Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor is the chief academic and administrative officer for the Lawrence Campus, reporting directly to the Chancellor. The Provost is primarily responsible for advancing the mission of the University in conjunction with the Chancellor, administrators, faculty, staff, and students across the Lawrence Campus. The Provost plays a critical leadership role in championing and furthering the goals outlined in the University’s strategic plan. The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor’s responsibilities include: • Directing the internal affairs of the Lawrence campus. All of the deans on the Lawrence Campus report to the Provost, as do the unit leaders for Research; Research and Planning; Administration; and the Edwards Campus in Overland Park. The Vice Provosts for Enrollment Management; Faculty Development; Diversity & Equity; Student Affairs; and Administration also report to the Provost. The Chief Financial Officer/Vice Provost for Finance for the Lawrence Campus reports to both the Chancellor and Provost. • Overseeing the academic and budgetary activities of the Lawrence Campus. The Provost is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and, together with the Executive Vice Chancellor of the KU Medical Center in Kansas City and the Chancellor, is a core member of the University’s executive leadership team. • Serving as chair of the University Committee on Promotion and Tenure, the Committee on Distinguished Professorships, and the University Committee on Sabbatical Leaves. • Serving as the principal administrative liaison with a vibrant faculty, staff, and student governance system. • Acting as the chief executive officer of the University in the Chancellor's absence. • Serving as the University’s representative to the Council of Chief Academic Officers and the System Council of Chief Academic Officers of the Kansas Board of Regents. • Serving as a managing trustee of the University Press of Kansas. • Serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the KU Center for Research. • Assuming other responsibilities as directed by the Chancellor.
