Specifications include, but are not limited to: Containers: Containers are needed that will house sharps containers and loose packed biohazard/medical waste. The contractor shall offer various capacity collection containers with biohazard labels on each container. Each contractor shall note the dimensions and approximate capacity of each container they offer. Vendor shall supply plastic tubs and cardboard boxes of approximately 31 gallons, in which sharps, chemo and other bagged medical waste will be placed. Sharps containers do not need to be provided. Boxes/containers shall be provided by the vendor at no additional cost. Red biohazard bags large enough to line the containers must also be provided at no additional cost. Collection of Containers: The contractor shall pick up and load containers and replace them with similar units twice monthly, preferably every other week, at a single location designated by Kansas State University (KSU) or as otherwise designated by the Department of Environmental Health & Safety. Contractor shall specify actions required for proper closure and sealing of containers so no container shall be rejected for disposal. Special Pickups: Must be available for special waste pickups when needed. These pickups may involve 50 or more boxes or reusable totes that are approximately 31 gallons in size. Overweight Charges: Overweight charges are not to be assessed to containers for items that cannot be separated on broken down into two or more boxes, such as animal carcasses. Provide alternatives to overweight charges or provide containers that would handle larger or oddly shaped items. Transportation: The contractor shall be able to provide transportation of filled containers from the point specified by Kansas State University to its incineration or disposal facility, unloading at the facility and handling as necessary to complete disposal. The contractor shall provide copies of licenses and or permits confirming that both their vehicles and drivers are in full compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. Any shipping manifests generated or completed related to medical services waste shall be forwarded to KSU prior to or with invoices for services. Incineration and Landfill: Incineration is the preferred disposal method. Any alternative proposals to incineration must be explain in detail. Provide a list of items acceptable at incineration facility beyond medical waste, such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) waste. Each contractor shall specify the name of the owner and address location of each facility they intend to use for incineration or landfill of medical services waste generated at KSU. Contractors may not use any other incineration or landfill facilities other than those specified in their bid without advance written approval from KSU. Pathogenic and Chemotherapy waste must be incinerated. Landfill disposal may be considered for other biohazard waste. No other means of disposition shall be acceptable. Provide a list of items that are not acceptable at incineration facility, such as radioactive materials.
