Specifications include, but are not limited to: The University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is an academic department with all major clinical subspecialties. The ultrasound unit within the department performs all of the OBGYN ultrasound in the outpatient and inpatient settings for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). There are 3 outpatient sites, 1 hospital site, 3 outreach/telemedicine sites in addition to performing ultrasound-guidance for gynecologic procedures. UIHC performs approximately 26,000 exams per year. There are 31 ultrasound machines from four manufacturers; GE, Phillips, Medison,and Samsung. UIHC employs 18 sonographers, 24 reading physicians and 22 dedicated workstations for ultrasound reporting. The University performs screening and diagnostic ultrasound as well as using the equipment for ultrasound-guidance for procedures in the clinic and in the operating rooms. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) physicians read all the obstetric ultrasounds and the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) physicians read all the gynecologic ultrasounds. Epic is the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) provide rand Carestream/PACS is the long term image archive system. Images are viewable in Epic and are Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) compatible. The current ultrasound reporting system is OnBase MFM Ultrasound Reporting System (R4).
