Specifications include, but are not limited to: The overall goal of this project of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) is to seek proposals for academic e-books that will be available to the students, faculty and staff for all CARLI member institutions. Current frontlist titles are preferred. The primary objectives of this request for information (RFI) are: 1) to identify the availability of individual e-books and their related pricing structure; 2) obtain information to provide a rich and varied selection of e-books to CARLI members through the union catalog, discoverable by all members, and loanable to all CARLI member library patrons; and, 3) identify how to make purchased e-books (through a non-guaranteed subsequent purchase) available for circulation to all CARLI members according to the contractually agreed model for each vendor. If contracted through a subsequent purchase, purchased e-books would need to be presented to the valid patrons of all CARLI members potentially through several user interfaces including, but not limited to, the CARLI I-Share union catalog (currently Ex Libris Voyager) which currently serves 91 of the CARLI libraries, through other catalog interfaces used by CARLI libraries that do not participate in I-Share, and through links to the vendor’s website(s). CARLI would be interested in extending full borrowing privileges to libraries added to CARLI after the initial award of any agreement.
