Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.1 This Specification is for services to repair and return petrolatum filled impedance bonds for D.C. traction service on an electrified railroad. The purpose of an impedance borid is to allow o.c. current flow around insulated rail joints without interfering with the functioning A,C, signal track circuits. 1,2 1.3 The materials, equipment, and workmanship shall be of the highest commercial quality. Failure to conform to the highest standards of the industry shall be cause for rejection. Metra's Chief Engineering Officer or his duly authorized representative shall be the final authority for deciding as to whether the services provided conforms to these requirements and comply with the intention of this specification. 1,4 The Specification is intended to be descriptive, but not restrictive, and is solely for the purpose ofindicating the type and quality of repair work which will meet the approval of Metra, 1,5 This specifications shall be considered as minimum, Variations from the values Iisted will be judged by Metra's Chief Engineering Officer as to their effect and ability to perform as intended. 1.6 It shall be the responsibility of the vendor to make certain that all systems, parts, and components fit and function together properly. 1.7 1.8 Where brand, manufacturer, or product names are indicated in this Specification, they are included only for the purpose of establishing identification and general descriptions of the item, Wherever such names appear, the term 'or approved equal' is considered to follow. 2,1 Repair work to be performed on Impedance Bonds includes, but may not be limited to: Removal of old potting compound, disassembly, inspection, deaning of parts, repair of case, repair or replacement of cover, re-insulation of coil, varnish dipping and baking the coil, reassembly, refilling with new petrolatum, and testing. The impedance bonds shall be restored to their intended functionality as per manufacturer's recommendations and specifications, 2,2 2,3 Vendor shall possess or shall hire the necessary equipment to properly transport a minimum of eight (8) impedance bonds in one shipment without damage. Impedance bonds shall be picked up from and delivered back to Metra's KYD Maintenance Facility at 12301 S. lndiana Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. All transportation costs are the responsibility of the Vendor and shall be included in the bid price, 2.4 Metra reserves the right to withhold payment for repairs until the impedance bonds have been tested by Metra electricians within s working days of delivery, and found to be satisfactorily repaired. 2.5 Repaired impedance bonds must operate satisfactorily in the field when placed in service within 180 days of delivery to and acceptance by Metra,
