Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2) Narrative: The Lincoln New Salem (LNS) state historic site is seeking bids to reroof and restore four (4) existing cedar wood shake roof assemblies located within the historic Village. The four structures are lean-to additions to the following cabins: Miller-Kelso, Trent Brothers, Johnston Cabin and Lukins-Ferguson. The structures are understood to have been completed within the 1932-1935 time frame. They were however, constructed to illustrate various log and timber construction practices used during the Lincoln period of significance. The structures conform to similar roof constructions; cedar shake, felt on 1 X wood spaced sheathing or cedar shake, felt, (ventilated underlayment) on wood solid sheathing assembly. The contractor will be required to remove the existing wood shakes and underlayment, replace damaged deck sheathing panels or 1X boards, and construct new roof assemblies as specified here-in. New construction to match existing materials, species, treatment, dimensions, exposure, profile and surface finish. Provide wood shake and substrate roof replacement for the lean-to roof structures at cabins: Miller-Kelso, Trent, Johnston and Lukins-Ferguson. Roof square footage: Please note, the Contractor will be responsible for verifying all roof areas, dimensions and conditions. Estimated total areas of all lean-to structures: 1,500 sf. 1) Inspect project roof assemblies and conditions. 2) Remove cedar shakes, fasteners, underlayment, felts, papers, damaged-spaced or damaged-solid deck sheathing. Unless otherwise noted, the existing log rafters and purlins are believed to be structurally sound and should remain. 3) Remove in-total existing solid deck particle board sheathing at Lukins-Ferguson lean-to structure. Estimated repair area: 200 SF. (No other structures are known to have a particleboard substrate.) 4) Repair damaged sections of existing wood spaced sheathing in-kind, to match existing wood type, dimension, design, profile, board lengths, spacing, installation/ attachment and finish. 5) Remove areas of damaged solid sheathing and replace with new exterior grade plywood. 6) Clean and prep new and existing to remain solid or spaced sheathing members or surfaces as required to accept new work and comply with Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau (CSSB) recommendations. 7) Install new wood shakes to match existing installation.
