Specifications include, but are not limited to: MOWING STANDARDS 1. Mow once every 2-3 weeks as needed; grass should not exceed six (6) inches. Not more than 8 mows per year. 2. First cut must be complete prior to June 1. 3. Contractor is responsible for contacting the County: a. Prior to mowing b. Upon completion of each cutting 4. Contractor must put up temporary signage in accordance with MUTCD to warn on-coming traffic of the mowing operation (see Median Maintenance). 5. Equipment must have safety markings and markers, including flashing lights. 6. Contractor must have $1.M in liability insurance. 7. Be minimally insured (as required) for peripheral damages that might occur to adjacent private properties. 8. Be minimally insured (as required) for damages that might occur to passing traffic. 9. Contractor is responsible for any, and all, damages - whether to their own equipment or to other person’s property or person. This includes direct damage, and indirect damage, that could be caused by debris thrown by the mower. 10. The contractor is responsible for notifying the County of any, and all, incidents that involve damage to personal property, commercial property, the right-of-way, or the environment. 11. The contractor shall hold the County, and its agents and employees, harmless for any liability incurred or damage done to any other party while performing aforementioned maintenance to the medians as designated. Furthermore, the contractor hereby waives and releases all claims against the County, and its agents and employees, which may arise by virtue of the aforementioned maintenance MEDIAN MAINTENANCE 1. There would be four (3) maintenance visits per year for maintenance of planted areas with mulch cover. 2. Apply pre-emergent in April/May; make sure application is watered in. 3. If requested, re-mulch plantings in the Spring to maintain 3” of mulch layer in shrub and tree areas, and 2” in perennial areas. Use double process shredded bark mulch, dark color. 4. Thin/prune trees and shrubs, and cut back perennials in late fall. 5. Weed medians every 3 weeks as needed. 6. Apply Round-Up/Surflan or approved equivalent mix to weeds. 7. Broadcast granular 10-10-10 fertilizer mix to planting areas in May. 8. Clean work area after job completion: pick up litter, and remove mulch and other debris off median and adjacent road surface. 9. Be familiar with the MUTCD and setting up an appropriate work zone traffic control. a. It is the responsibility of the contractor/provider of this maintenance service to set up a work zone to protect their staff and the travelling public; and to route traffic safely around work area.
