Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Structural engineering and design for the modifications and raising of two spans of Bridge 87 including the following items: a. Deck: All exposed reinforcing bars will be cleaned and coated. If track reconfiguration or replacement is scheduled, the deck should be waterproofed using liquid spray waterproofing. b. Abutments and Concrete Piers: Repair spalled, deteriorated areas and repair cracks by epoxy injection. The faces and top surfaces of the abutments and piers should be sealed in order to minimize infiltration of water, particularly under joints. Hazardous Materials: Due to the age of this bridge, it is suspected that the existing stmctural members may be coated with lead paint and/or other toxic materials. Appropriate measures should be taken to protect the surrounding environment, and to ensure the health and safety of the workers and the general public during any constmction or repair work at this site. Areas of the stmcture being modified shall be abated, this includes but is not limited to steel sections being connected too, deck waterproofing and disturbed soils. d. Proposed Stmcture: Two of the bridge spans will be raised to obtain the required clearance over the BRC/N S tracks. Method of Construction: This work will need to occur with an active commuter line (Metra Rock Island District) above and must be constmcted without disruption to weekday trains. The rehabilitation work must be completed with minimal disruption to train traffic. 2. Coordination with survey to ensure all utilities are properly located, and if necessary, coordinating meetings with various utility owners regarding possible utility relocations. Utilities shall be shown on plan sheets. 3. Previous soil borings and geotechnical reports provided shall be used to guide the design as well as any new borings and reports required. 4. Identi'fy the quantity, type and location, and required disposal procedures of any hazardous materials, soil or contaminated groundwater on site. s. Identify any non-hazardous material requiring special handling and or disposal requirements. 6. Providecostestimatesforproperhandlinganddisposalforanyhazardousornon-hazardousmaterials, including asbestos containing materials, lead based paint and contaminated soil and/or groundwater. 7. Metra will provide the selected firtn the Bridge Condition Report during negotiations. 8. Prepare drawings and specifications for constmction. 9. Develop an estimate of constmction costs by unit price. 10. Supply Metra with stamped bid documents and final cost estimate. 11. Design, cost estimates, and specifications will be developed at 40%, 80%, l 00%, and stamped Issued for Bid submittals. 12. The 40% Plans will be developed from the Bridge Condition Report. 13. Attend bi-weekly meetings with Metra. Meeting minutes will be prepared by the Consultant and submitted to Metra. 14. Attending the pre-bid meeting and assisting Metra in providing a written response to all applicable prospective bidders' questions. These responses will be issued by Metra as an Addendum to the solicitation. 15. Assist with the bidding process, including revising drawings and answering questions, and preparation of addenda.
