Specifications include, but are not limited to: The UIC College of Engineering (CoE) Building 629 Project consists of a new stand-alone building on the UIC East Campus. The site is at the southeast corner of Taylor Street and Morgan Street on the north side of Parking Lot 5. The existing site is a flat parking lot. There are no existing buildings on the site. The base building design is approximately 54,500 SF. The building includes spaces for students, researchers, and faculty: a high-bay structural testing lab for the Civil and Materials Engineering (CME) Department, research laboratories and offices for the Chemical Engineering (CE) Department, research laboratories and offices for the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department, research laboratories/computational labs and offices assigned to the Dean of the College as flexible space, and general building functional spaces. The project has a USGBC LEED (version 2009) goal of Gold level certification. The existing SES (Science and Engineering South) building to the east houses a highly vibration sensitive microscope and the labs in the CoE Building 629 will contain vibration sensitive equipment as well.
