Specifications include, but are not limited to:It is the intent of Lake County to enter into a lease agreement for County property for the sole intention of farming alflafa hay on approximately 45 acres with a qualified proposer. The premises shall be used for the purpose of planting, fertilizing, growing, and harvesting crops that produce hay and a cover crop. The lessee will be required to cultivate the farm faithfully and in a timely, thorough, and business-like manner. Lessee is responsible for maintaining proper soil erosion control practices which are mandated by the state, keep open ditches, tile drains, tile outlets, waterways and wetlands in good repair. Any chemicals for weed or insect control or other use, when used, should be applied at levels not to exceed the manufacturer’s recommendation for the soil types involved. No chemicals will be stored or disposed on the property. The Lessee agrees to provide to the Lessor, annually, a written report indicating the product name, amount, date of application and location of application of all pesticides and fertilizers used on the farm. All fertilizers used must meet IEPA standards for phosphorus levels and use of manure as a fertilizer is prohibited without the prior written consent of the Lessor. Lessee will be required to sow a new alfalfa planting at beginning of lease and sow a new cover crop of one of the following planting; crimson clover, hairy vetch, spring oats or cereal rye.
