Specifications include, but are not limited to: Part 1: Establishment of Additional Seed Orchard sites DLNR seeks development of disease resistant koa to be planted by state and private landowners in the Helemano region of the island of Oahu and in the Kona region of the island of Hawaii. Seed collection and screening that results in the identification of at least 25 wilt resistant families for both the Helemano region of Oahu and the South Kona district of Hawaii island. The vendor will establish a plantation (2- 3acres) at both Helemano and Kona. The vendor will work with DLNR and private landowners to locate an appropriate site in for the s eed orchard. Site prep will be provided by the landowner. The vendor will grow-out and plant seedling from at least 25 resistant koa families fromboth the Helemano region and Kona district. Follow-up plantation surveys and management will be conducted by the vendor in close cooperation with the landowner.Vendor will coordinate seed collection with Hawaii Island DOFAW staff for collection efforts in Kapapala Canoe For est located in the Kau Forest Reserve.VENDOR REQUIREMENTS: Vendor must possess screened disease resistant koa seedling stock from the leeward Hawaii and windward Oahu for the plantings above. Vendor must also have knowledge of koa silvicultural methods i ncluding site prep.Part 2: Existing Seed Orchard Maintenance (Hawaii, Kauai, Maui and Oahu)The vendor will maintain (6) existing plantings of disease resistant koa plantings on Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu islands. Weed suppression, pruning, pest monitoring, and growth measurements will be conducted as needed over the project period. In addition, the vendor will investigate new seed protection technology and evaluate its efficacy to reduce levels of seed predation in koa seed orchards.Total area of plantings is approximately 12 acres. Seed production within established seed orchards will be monitored and reported in progress reports along with growth and survival data. Vendor will work closely with DOFAW staff in developing a plan for future distribution for wilt resistant koa seed and seedlings. VENDOR REQUIREMENTS: Vendor must possess silvicultural expertise and knowledge of koa plantation management as well as the ability to process and store koa seed. Part 3: Survey for and collection ofFusarium oxysporum f.sp. koae is olatesThe vendor will survey for and collect at least 25 isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. koae, the pathogen that causes koa wilt disease across the State. A focus will be on the Helemano region of Oahu and the Kona and Ka’u regions of the island of Hawaii. The sampling will be in cooperation with DOFAW staff. The target survey areas w ill include locations within the northern leeward (Helemano) areas of the Koolauloa, Oahu and the South Kona Ka’u districts of the Hawaii Island.VENDOR REQUIREMENTS: The vendor must be knowledgeable in forest disease sampling techniques and have access to a laboratory facility for culturing and identifying Fusarium oxysporum.
