Specifications include, but are not limited to: Layers (Pullets): • Layers must be free and clear of any clinical disease or worms. • Layers must be received at the layer unit at 16 weeks of age. Vaccination Program: The following vaccination programs (as outlined in the Hy-Line Management Guide for W-36 layers) should be followed: • Day 1 – Merek’s Disease • 18 to 20 days – Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) intermediate strain in water. • 25 days – Newcastle B-1 and bronchitis, mild Mass. in water. • 28 to 30 days – IBD intermediate strain in water. • 7 to 8 weeks – Newcastle B-1 and bronchitis, regular Mass. in water or spray. • 10 weeks – Pigeon pox, Pox wingweb and AE wingweb, water or spray. • 14 weeks – Newcastle LaSota and bronchitis, mild Holland spray or Newcastle bronchitis killed virus injection. • Salmonella vaccine needed: o (2) live o (1) killed Beak Trimming: • The proper size hole must be selected to provide the width of 2 mm between the nostrils and cauterizing ring. The proper size hole will depend on the size and age of chicks. A cherry red blade is recommended for proper cautery. • Beak trimmings must follow United Egg Producer’s (UEP’s) Animal Husbandry Guidelines.
