Specifications include, but are not limited to: 15 kV POWER CABLE A. Manufacturer: Okonite. General Power cable shall be 1/C #4/0 AWG or 500 KCMIL, 15 kV, Class B stranded aluminum conductor, triple tandem extruded semiconducting strand shield, EPR insulation, semiconducting insulation shield, concentric neutral conductors and an overall jacket. Conductor 1/C #4/0 AWG or 500 KCMIL uncoated aluminum wire shall be Class B stranded concentric compressed round or compact round per ASTM B-231 and shall be filled with a compound to prevent possible water migration along the conductor during installation or operating service life. The surface of the conductor shall be clean and free of any strand filling compound. Conductor Shield An extruded layer of semiconducting EPR thermosetting compound shall be applied over the conductor. The shield shall be clean stripping from the conductor and inseparably bonded to the overlaying insulation. Insulation The insulation shall be a flexible thermosetting dielectric based on an ethylene propylene elastomer. The ethylene content of the elastomer used in the insulation compound shall not exceed 72% by weight nor shall the insulation compound contain any polyethylene. The insulation shall be compounded by the cable manufacturer in its own facility. The minimum insulation thickness shall not be less than 220 mils. The minimum thickness at any cross-section of the insulation shall not be less than 90% of the specified minimum average thickness. Insulation Shield The insulation shield shall be an extruded semiconducting EPR compound and shall be clean stripping from the underlying insulation. The outer surface of the insulation shield shall be continuously printed with white ink: “ Semiconducting – Remove when Splicing or Terminating”. Metallic Shield Concentric Neutral The metallic shield shall consist of an evenly spaced helical wrap of bare copper wires. They shall be applied directly over and in contact with the insulation shield. The number and size of the concentric wires shall be: #4/0 AWG AL - 12 #14 AWG CU 500 KCMIL AL - 16 #12 AWG CU The concentric wires shall be applied with a length of lay of between 6
