Specifications include, but are not limited to: Renovation of the shell space on the seventh floor of the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center, as well as removing the existing storage partitions and fencing dividing up portions of the shell space. In addition to the architectural renovation, the HVAC units will be completely replaced. The purpose of the seventh-floor space is twofold. The Northern portion of the seventh floor is a fit-out for the Justice of the Peace Courts 10 and 20. This space will involve one large courtroom and three smaller hearing rooms as well as associated holding space and A/V closets. Additionally, there will be administrative space, waiting space, an intake counter, offices, judges’ chambers, file space, security spaces and infrastructure, and staff support spaces. The South portion of the seventh floor will accommodate two shared courtrooms and associated support spaces including holding cells, a non-contact attorney meeting room, jury deliberation rooms, and evidence and A/V closets. The north shared courtroom is a Special Proceedings Courtroom designed to accommodate five judges on the bench and a large number of spectators. Both shared courtrooms are designed to maximize flexibility for different courts. The North JP courtroom is also designed to allow for shared use when available. The new spaces are to be consistent with the building standards of finish levels, fire ratings, acoustical levels, and security levels. The spaces will be designed to maintain or improve upon existing courtroom and support space design while being cost effective.
