2968-19 - Young Men of Color Collective Impact Program

To address the challenges outlined in the previous section and support the continued growth of APS’ young men of color to fulfill their plans for the future, APS is looking to engage in a collective impact project. This project is intended to leverage the expertise of the community to drive improved outcomes by both 1) providing enhanced supports and opportunities in support of our young men of color aimed at addressing common outcomes and 2) collaborating to identify other opportunities for further support and barriers to eliminate. To support this work, APS plans to invest up to one million dollars over the next two years to pilot a Young Men of Color Collective Impact Program.  Specifically, APS intends to leverage grants up to $50,000, per year, over the next two fiscal years to produce a sustainable collective impact program in collaboration with nonprofit partners (hereafter referred to as partners) to support young men of color in the district.  The purpose of this investment is to collectively improve the performance of APS males of color over the grant period and beyond by collectively addressing the following common outcomes:
 

• attendance;
• Discipline incidences; and/or,
• On-track toward graduation.

• experience designing and executing successful programming that supports young men of color;
• an asset-oriented approach to supporting young men of color;
• capacity and a willingness to integrate model practices; 
• a commitment to collaborating around strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats; 
• a commitment to co-invent new collective programs and strategies to better serve young men of color; and
• use of an asset-based approach to supporting the academic growth and social emotional development of young men of color.
