There are many public agencies in the Boulder County area providing recreational trail experiences. These trail experiences are extremely varied, ranging from urban concrete trails in the plains to rugged natural surface trails in the mountains. With so many agencies offering so much access to trails, it can be difficult for the trail user to navigate the many websites and trail maps to find the pertinent trail information necessary for planning a recreational trail trip. As stewards of these trails, the members of the project team consistently receive feedback from the public looking for an easier user experience when searching for trail information. Users do not want to navigate multiple websites to find maps to piece together a trip that could easily cross multiple jurisdictions; instead they want “one stop shopping” where they can find all recreational trail information in a single mobile application.
For the last two years, eleven public agencies within the county, as well as the City and County of Broomfield, have been collaborating to create a county wide mobile trail map application for the public. These agencies include:
Boulder County Town of Superior City and County of Broomfield
City of Longmont Town of Lyons Town of Nederland
City of Boulder City of Lafayette Rocky Mountain National Park
City of Erie City of Louisville US Forest Service
The goal of this project is to create a mobile recreational trail application that includes data from all of the above stakeholders.
The Boulder Area Trail Group has consolidated all trail and trailhead data from the above agencies into a single data source for both the trails and the trailheads. This data was then loaded into an ArcGIS Online map, the Boulder Area AGO Map. Simple popups and filtering functionality were created to view the data.
This RFI seeks to solicit recommendations on technological solutions and determine cost estimates for budgeting purposes to develop a Mobile Trails Application.
