Colorado Scenic and Historic Byways program is a statewide partnership intended to provide recreational, educational and economic benefits to Coloradans and visitors traveling the state’s 26 designated Byways. Information is key to navigating these outstanding touring routes. To date, information has been developed piece-meal, thus causing insufficient or inconsistent information for the traveling public. A uniform and consistent wayfinding system that guides travelers to important sites and provides additional opportunities for activities and education is essential to the success of the traveler and the economic development of the byway. By providing better information to travelers, the travelers’ experience is enhanced, and the opportunity for shopping, purchasing food, lodging and other expenditures is greatly increased.
This project identifies five byways, each representing a different part of the state, not currently meeting the economic potential that travelers can bring, and that also have safety issues that arise from insufficient wayfinding information.
CDOT would like to hire a consultant to conduct a formal evaluation and provide a written report of wayfinding information of each of the five identified byways, as well as, complete an overall statewide finding and recommendation from all the reports.
Statewide
