19-007-3215 - County Road 228 – Florida Canal Bridge

The La Plata County Public Works Department is seeking a qualified civil engineering consultant to complete the preliminary and final design of the County Road 228 Florida Canal Bridge. This design project is funded by County funds and has no CDOT or direct Federal funding. 
This project shall be designed in accordance with; the latest American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) using the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method specified in the LRFD bridge design manual with the HL-93 design load; and a Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Standards for Road and Bridge Construction.  All work will be performed under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer, registered in the State of Colorado. 
The project is located approximately 1,200 feet east of the CR 234 – CR 228 intersection.  This bridge is approximately 30 feet long and 24 feet wide comprised of timber girders with a wood plank deck on wood piles and non-standard bridge railings bolted to the deck.  The bridge is posted with a 15 ton limit do to checks in the girders and was assigned a sufficiency rating of 33.8 after the last inspection 10/18/2018.  There is an existing irrigation headgate is located just south of the bridge on the east side.     
The project will consist of the preliminary (structure selection) and final design for the construction of the new of a new bridge structure.  The design will provide a paved surface width of 30 feet from inside of bridge rail to inside of bridge rail and pre-engineered structures may be evaluated as appropriate.  Roadway improvements shall extend a minimum along the road centerline to the limits of the guardrail end anchorages.
