Description

BTWC has been awarded a grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Watershed Resilience Pilot Program for the restoration of Big Thompson River at Reach 28, located approximately 5 miles upstream from Loveland. This grant has been awarded to complete as much design and river restoration as possible with the funding set forth, and within the established time frames and including all permit fees. Approximately $950,000 to $1,050,000 in grant funding is available for the final design, permitting and construction of the Reach 28 project. The project will address multiple objectives including increased long-term flood resilience within the reach, improved resilience in upstream and downstream reaches due to the improved function within the project reach, and restoration of aquatic and riparian habitat. Flood resilience will be attained through a reliance on soft-path, rather than hard-path, approaches, consistent with aesthetics and ecological function. The project will restore the channel in this reach to improve conveyance capacity, a deeper low flow channel, and channel and bank stability.
