Specifications include, but are not limited to: The work under the Project includes replacement of ballast, ties, rail, specialty trackwork, rail fixation and drainage between the tracks, and other improvements to the Twin Peaks Tunnel (Tunnel). Trackwork improvements include replacing the existing tie and ballast tracks throughout the Tunnel, replacing the existing embedded tie and ballast track at West Portal and Forest Hill Stations with direct fixation embedded track (that is, track installed on a reinforced concrete slab), installing four new crossovers with associated Overhead Contact System (OCS) for traction power, installing maintenance lighting, replacing two turnouts at the Eureka Valley Station, installing wayside rail lubrication systems, and installing a local track switch control panel at the outbound operator kiosk at the West Portal Station. Track drainage improvements include cleaning and video inspection of tunnel drainage lines and manholes, and replacing drainage lines throughout the Tunnel, and repairing existing cracks in the Tunnel ceiling. The work also includes seismic improvements at the Old Eureka Valley Station and the West Portal Station. At Old Eureka Valley Station, seismic improvements include adding concrete footings, steel columns and girders, strengthening column/girder connections, and adding fireproofing material to columns and girders. At West Portal Station, seismic improvements include strengthening a section of the brick crown. The work at West Portal Station also includes replacing a fire alarm system, fire detection, and fire suppression system at West Portal Station. The work at Forest Hill Station includes repairing isolation gate valves for firefighting water lines, and replacing undercar deluge system branch lines.
