The goal of the Initiative is to reduce the number of violence related trauma visits among Los Angeles County residents in communities experiencing the highest levels of violence. A key strategy of the initiative is street outreach and community violence intervention services. This model utilizes a peer approach, including trained intervention workers who have relationships with the community to: mediate conflict, stop retaliatory violence, and ensure safe passages to and from schools and parks. Interventionists will also facilitate linkages for youth and adults to needed health, mental health and social services. This work will be implemented in the four TPI communities in South Los Angeles: Westmont West Athens (zip codes 90044, 90047), Willowbrook (zip codes 90059, 90062, 90222), Florence Graham (zip codes 90001, 90002), and Unincorporated Compton (zip codes 90220, 90221).
