Specifications include, but are not limited to: Service Provider shall provide the below services to EGPD’s Canine Unit. Services shall include, but are not limited to the following: A. In-service training and evaluation of the EGPD Canine Unit on the second and fourth Wednesday each month in an effort to create uniformity and consistency across the Canine Unit for both the canines and their handlers. Training evaluation times on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month will vary. i. Include an eight (8) hour patrol training session. ii. Firearms and narcotics detection training for a minimum of four (4) hours per month on the scheduled eight (8) hour training days. iii. Obedience, agility, protection, tracking, scent detection, tactical deployment, and current tactical officer-safety canine handling techniques. iv. Cover all areas detailed in the EGPD’s “Canine Handlers Training Guide” (Attachment D). v. On-going training and evaluation of the canines and their handlers and shall provide written documentation of time, date, location, name of officer/canine team, and any issues identified during training that will require additional training. 1. Submit the written documentation to the Canine Unit manager and communicate with the Canine Unit manager regarding all concerns or deficiencies as soon as they are identified. vi. Problem solving solutions regarding any behavioral patterns or problems that may arise with the officers/canine teams during training and evaluation. B. A beginner canine handler course for newly assigned EGPD canine handlers. The beginner course shall include a minimum of 240 hours of training with the handler and the canine and shall cover all areas detailed in the “EGPD Patrol Officer K9 Orientation” (Attachment E). At the conclusion of the course, the canine handler team shall meet the minimum standard set by the EGPD and the CA Peace Officer Standards and Training (“POST”) standard. i. Provide Canine Unit manager with written documentation of time, date, location, name off officer/canine team and training covered as well as any issues identified throughout the beginner canine handler course. C. Training at EGPD’s canine training facility located at 10190 Iron Rock Way, Elk Grove, CA 95624 and various other training locations as requested by the EGPD Canine Unit. D. Annual POST certification for each canine and shall provide the certification to the Canine Unit manager. E. Assist with the selection of canines purchased by the EGPD. F. Keep the EGPD Canine Unit manager informed of the status and progress of the EGPD Canine Unit on a monthly and as needed basis. G. Additional training, as needed, at the request of the Canine Unit manager.
