Specifications include, but are not limited to: The classroom training curriculum must include a comprehensive overview of the following: Classroom portion (6 hours): Guidelines for how to recognize fall hazards and how to avoid them. The use and operation of guardrail systems, personal fall arrest systems, fall restraint systems, work positioning systems, safety net systems, warning line systems, safety monitoring systems, controlled access zones, and other fall protection systems. The correct procedures for selecting, erecting, maintaining, disassembling, and inspecting the fall protection systems. The limitations of equipment and systems mentioned above. The role of each employee in the safety monitoring system when this type of a system is used. The correct procedures for the handling and storage of equipment and materials and the erection of overhead protection. The role of employees in fall protection plans. Cal/OSHA regulations. Trigger heights, anchor systems, and working on slopes. Equipment selection, use, and inspection. Scaffolds, aerial lifts, work platforms, stairways, and ladders. Review of the following Department’s checklists: harness, lanyards and scaffold. Checklists will be provided to the vendor once the bid is awarded. Written exam not to exceed 20 minutes to verify employees’ understanding of the material. Practical hands-on portion (2 hours): Working with and setting up fall protection equipment, donning/doffing a harness, and suspending in air with a tripod pulley system or hoist system Inspection of fall protection equipment using Public Works’ inspection checklist.
