Specifications include, but are not limited to: The existing bridge is a precast concrete girder bridge with concrete deck, diaphragms, and railings with two intermediate piers and abutments. The superstructure sits upon concrete capped, concrete filled, driven fluted steel piling piers. The north and south abutments have concrete slope protection that ties into an existing concrete scour slab running the length of the bridge. Bridge removal shall include removal of the superstructure, abutments, slope protection and piers to the limits noted in the referenced project plans. The Contractor shall legally dispose of the removed structure offsite. The new 11-barrel cast-in-place concrete box culvert design prepared by MCDOT will require roadway closure time to remove and replace the existing structure. The forecasted closure time using conventional construction methods is less than desirable to the Town. Therefore, the Town is interested in receiving and considering alternative structure designs and/or construction methods that will significantly reduce closure time with an achieved goal of re-opening the roadway to minimize the public’s travel inconvenience. A re-opened roadway shall have a minimal of one travel lane in each direction.
