Specifications include, but are not limited to: The replacement of two automatic transfer switches at the Chugiak Senior Center that were installed as part of the original construction or addition in the mid1980’s. The system was installed under the 1981 National Electric Code and the equipment and installation met the NEC requirements at that time. Despite regular testing of the emergency system, the transfer switches failed to connect generator power to the emergency system during the November 30, 2018 earthquake. The existing transfer switches have been maintained and repaired by the manufacturer, Cummins Onan since the original installation, and parts are no longer available from the manufacturer. Therefore, new transfer switches will be used as a “replacement in kind” effort to repair the existing emergency power system. No other modifications or changes to the existing electrical system will be made as part of this effort.
