Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), Office of Healthy Schools is seeking competitive written proposals from qualified Applicants to provide school nurse programs implementing the Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell-Mary Sprayberry School Nurse Grant through grant awards issued by the Mississippi Department of Education. The Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Healthy Schools, will provide school districts opportunities to enhance their school nurse program by either hiring a new school nurse of supplementing an already existing nurse to participate in the Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell – Mary Sprayberry School Nurse program. Districts must demonstrate the following to receive a grant. • School readiness for a nursing program, • How the funds will be used to achieve the goals and objectives of the program • Implementing a world class educational system The Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell-Mary Sprayberry School Nurse grant will be awarded to employ a School Nurse to serve as coordinator of the health services program, including provide nursing care, health education to students/staff or supplement an already exist school nurse program. The individual hired for this program must be a registered nurse to receive funding. A registered nurse is a nurse who has graduated from a college's nursing program or from a school of nursing and has passed a national licensing exam.
