Specifications include, but are not limited to: 4.0 - PREPARATION - NEW SURFACE AREAS: 4.1 Remove all existing topsoil as required. Compact sub-grade materials thoroughly to 95% Modified Proctor using suitable compacting methods until no further movement of the soil is observed. Any area that develops weakness or cannot be consolidated by rolling shall be removed and replaced with sound material. 4.2 Paving shall not be placed during rainy or threatening weather or when the moisture on the surface would prevent satisfactory bonding. Do not pave when the air temperature is below 40 degrees F. 4.3 All old paving/surfaces abutting new pavement shall be cut to straight lines perpendicular to the new surface and tack coat applied. A butt joint shall be constructed at the existing edge of pavement. 4.4 Place a sub-base consisting of 8" of 21AA limestone or 22A natural crushed stone for Cost Center #1 and 6” of 21AA limestone or 22A natural crushed stone for Cost Center #2. Level/ float until the sub-base surface is smooth and evenly distributed. Thoroughly compact to 98% Modified Proctor. 5.0 - PLACING ASPHALT PAVEMENT ANDSIDEWALK: 5.1 Repaired or patched areas: Place the patching bituminous mix to a depth equal to the surround non-damaged asphalt and in accordance with MDOT Standard Specifications for Construction. 5.2 New paving areas: Wearing course paving shall be placed in two (2) lifts of 2½" leveling and 1½" wearing for Cost Center #1 and 2” leveling and 1 ½” wearing for Cost Center #2, on a properly cured tack coat to provide a finished compacted thickness of four (4) inches. Paving operations shall stagger joints between leveling and wearing layers. 5.3 Compact new bituminous materials by rolling. Do not displace or extrude pavement materials from position. Hand compact areas that are not accessible to rolling equipment. All bituminous materials are to be compacted to 98% of Maximum Unit Weight determined by 50 blows Marshall Test. 5.4 Roll with consecutive passes to achieve even and smooth finish without roller marks. Finished surface shall be flush with existing adjacent grass / lawn area. 5.5 The flatness of the finished paving product shall have a maximum variation of 1/8" measured with a ten (10') foot straight edge. Areas that fail to conform to this standard shallbe repaired at no additional cost to the Owner. 5.6 Following the proper curing time, stripe the parking spaces as indicated. All new parking spaces shall be marked with the same color Yellow, thickness and general appearance as the existing parking area. Contractor shall coordinate with the owner prior to pavement striping and shall obtain approval of final pavement marking plan. 5.7 The thickened edge of the sidewalk shall be installed as shown on the attached plan.
