The Wilson Avenue Flood Mitigation Project is a transportation based project intended to raise Wilson
Avenue across the Big Thompson River floodplain so that the roadway will not overtop in a 100-year flood
event, similar to the recent 2013 Flood. The work entails demolition, raising the road profile at the existing
low points, construction of new curb and gutter between 1st Street and the Big Barnes Ditch, construction
of sidewalk and trail connections, a trailhead parking lot, safety and resiliency improvements, access
improvements, a landscaped median, and storm drainage system.
This project is funded by a Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant
administered by the State of Colorado Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management
(DHSEM) using Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds.
