2627-16 - Supporting Partners for School Turnaround

After several years of marginal improvement, APS is taking an aggressive approach to improving the district’s priority schools.  In 2016, APS launched its first Innovation Zone that includes 5 schools (PK-5, K-5, K-8, 6-12, and 9-12).  APS is currently considering alternative strategies to turning around other priority schools.   APS intends to change the trajectory of schools in priority status by implementing a series of strategies identified collectively as “CORE.” CORE stands for Communities Organized to Reach Excellence and encompasses three areas:

• Multiple research-based “communities of practice”
• Innovative systems and structures
• A proactive timeline for addressing schools identified as having significant challenges
