SSN=2023-101-JS - Phosphate Laser Glass Amplifier Lenses

Colorado State University hereby gives notice of its intent to purchase Schott North America Inc., Phosphate Laser Glass Amplifier Lenses via sole source. The Advanced Laser for Extreme Photonics (ALEPH) lab at Colorado State University intends to purchase phosphate laser glass lenses to create a prototype to initiate an upgrade to the current 0.85 Petawatt laser that is one of the most powerful class 4 lasers in the world. ALEPH serves users from many institutions, including other universities and national laboratories who conduct experiments in relativistic laser-matter interactions. CSU plans to upgrade ALEPH both in peak power and in repetition rate. Currently ALEPH is pumped by Xe flashlamps at a repetition rate to 3.3 Hz and are re-designing to operate at a higher power and an increased repetition rate of 10 Hz. ALEPH will test APG-1 and APG-760 phosphate laser glass amplifier lenses for the prototype to reduce risk in the development. Based on the success of the prototype CSU will make additional purchases for either Schott APG-1 glass or APG-760 for the system upgrade.
