Specifications include, but are not limited to: MOWING 1. DESCRIPTION This work shall consist of mowing thick brush in detention basins owned by the Town of Southbury. Additional areas not within or surrounding detention basins may require mowing as well. 2. EQUIPMENT Mower: Machine equipped with mower may be a skid steer, excavator, tractor, etc. Mower must be a flail or brush hog type with a minimum cutting width of 60” and a minimum cutting capacity of 2”. 3. MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT Mowing shall be measured by the hours of work done at the job site. Mobilization, travel time, equipment setup, fueling time, etc. shall not be paid for separately and must be included in the bidder’s hourly rate. Any lunch breaks or other work stoppages shall not be considered time worked on the job. A minimum of 7 hours of work shall be done each day, between the hours of 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM, except as permitted by the Director of Public Works or his designee. HYDROSEEDING 1. DESCRIPTION Detention basins (also known as detention ponds or retention basins) that have been recently cleared and cleaned by the Town of Southbury are in need of hydroseeding to prevent the growth of invasive grasses and other plants. This work shall consist of applying hydroseed mix and other materials to the bases, slopes, berms, and surrounding areas of detention basins. Additional areas not within or surrounding detention basins may require seeding as well. 2. MATERIALS Seed o Seed type: Low grow, no mow type including dwarf fescue o Application rate: 7-11 lb. per 1,000 square feet Hydro mulch o Mixture No tackifier: 70% straw/wood fiber, 30% cellulose/cotton plant material With tackifier: 65-67% straw/wood fiber, 25-30% cellulose/cotton plant material, 3-10% tackifier o Application rate: 50-90 lb. per 1,000 square feet, increasing with slope o Mulch to water ratio: 50 lb. per 100 or 125 gallons o Slope: flat to 1:1 o Examples: NA Green HydraCM/HydraCX, Profile Blend with tackifier or equivalent Tackifier o Tackifier may be included with hydro mulch or separate o Application rate: 0.9-1.6 lb. per 1,000 square feet, increasing with slope Fertilizer o Type: Starter fertilizer o Ratio: 10-10-10 N-P-K or similar o Application rate: 0.5-1 lb. N per 1,000 square feet Weed preventer o Bidder’s choice Water o Depending on field conditions, water for seeding may be available in the detention basins. The bidder is encouraged to use this water. However, if no water is available in the detention basins, the bidder must procure water separately at his own expense. Alternates o Treatments that vary slightly from these specifications may be acceptable, provided the alternate treatments have the same effectiveness as the specified materials. Bidders should indicate variations from these specifications in the “exceptions” field of the bid form.
